The Importance of Training and
Less-Lethal Technologies
Police officers sometimes need to control violent, combative people. Their
actions under such circumstances are governed by use-of-force protocols and
policies in their respective states and police organizations. Many agencies
currently only utilize limited use of force tools ranging from hands, straight
to firearms with no other options put in between. Less-lethal technologies give
police an alternative to lethal force. Instructor Based Training and
Focusing on Making Arrests Safer With Less Lethal Technologies.
Less-Lethal Instructor Program is to provide law enforcement and corrections
officers with equipment that protects them and the public, reducing the
possibility of injury or death. Currently there are states that are slowly
moving towards the use of less Lethal Technologies and our program provides a
better understanding for law enforcement and corrections officers on how to
properly utilize the Less Lethal Technologies.
These technologies are especially valuable when lethal force:
- Is not necessary.
- Is justified and available for backup, but lesser force may resolve the
situation.
- Is justified, but its use could cause serious injury to bystanders or other
unacceptable collateral effects.
This 2-day Instructor based program covers the following topics:
- Current less lethal case law incidents
- Overview on Use of Force guidelines and the implementation of less lethal
systems
- Use of assorted less lethal systems
- Proper use of the air based less lethal system
- Provide tactics enabling law enforcement and corrections agencies to safely
deny individuals or groups access to areas such as in crowd control situations.
- Understanding the proper distances and the effective ranges of the less lethal
projectiles
- Sample policies that can be used to assist your agency in developing the
deployment and use of less lethal systems.
- Video study of less lethal systems and understanding the human health effects
of less-lethal technologies, including chemical, kinetic energy and Conducted
Energy Devices such as Tasers.
- Analyzing information about incidents of the use-of-force against humans,
including the nature of the force applied and the nature of injuries suffered.
- Understanding the importance of clearly dedicated less lethal systems during a
deployment operation
- Overview on actual less lethal rounds and systems on the market today
